OK. Enough Rain For Now
It's been raining pretty steadily for a week now. We didn't have much rain this summer through the stifling heat and humidity, and I know we need it, but we don't need a season's rainfall in 7 days.
Today I was pretty soaked by the time I got to the subway due to the sideways rain. I finally managed to get on a packed train and immediately noticed two things. In the midst of the crowd, there were three empty, contiguous seats. At the same time, I was whacked in the nose by the unmistakable stench of BUM! (I know you can relate to this, sammie). Sure enough, there was a hooded, sleeping bum occupying the seat immediately adjacent to the 3 empty ones. The combination of rain soaked passengers and Bumstink was enough to bring tears to my eyes. I got off at the next stop to change cars.
Then, this afternoon, I had to go all the way downtown for a meeting. This trip required 3 trains and a 6 block walk. With a wind-broken umbrella. I was running late and couldn't call because by cel phone battery was dead. And I hate being late for appointments. Then when I finally got to the building, turns out the guy I was meeting never even came in today. Because of the rain.

i can relate, for sure!
today, i left the office to run a few errands during my lunch break. halfway to the post office, i realized i forgot the mail i needed to send out. had to walk back to the office to get it, prolonging the wet misery.
it's that sideways rain you speak of that gets you.
and funny you should mention bumstink because i was accosted by the very same smell on the subway too. it was f*cking nasty - smelled like pee and a dirty diaper.
I've lived where it rained a lot, Mississippi and New Orleans. Here in Central Texas it rains intermittently (did I spell that right?)It either rains and gets it over with or it just doesn't rain. For months. All the herbs in my garden are dead.. my fault, got busy, stressed, tired and lazy all at the same time. So everything died in my garden.
But even though rain is a good thing, it can get annoying. Like the wind out here.
Luckily we don't have a lot of bums around here. But I know the smell.
